It's a relatively quiet Monday night but we still have 3 top flight fixtures to consider including the Monday Night Football live from Sky as Liverpool entertain Newcastle at Anfield as well as an SPL fixture between a seemingly doomed St Mirren and on form Ross County and there's a La Liga fixture too, with Valencia welcoming Levante to the Mestalla. It has been a tough couple of days for bobreaksbookies, so I won't be going crazy with the stakes for these fixtures tonight. Here are my previews and suggested bets for Monday. Premier League
21:00 Liverpool vs Newcastle United - Prediction 3.0- Best Bet - Liverpool -1 to win @20/21 In the 1990's these sides played out two of the most memorable matches in PL history with Liverpool prevailing by 4 goals to 3 on both occasions with the first match in particular going down as perhaps the greatest PL fixture ever but a repeat tonight should not be expected. Liverpool need a good result following their heavy defeat at Arsenal last time around in the league and this looks like the perfect occasion to get one as they welcome an insipid Newcastle side to Anfield tonight. You get the feeling that Sky put this match on live every year in the hope of something similar recurring but with this Newcastle team, it would be a surprise if they could score 3 more goals this season, let alone tonight. The Reds were less than convincing as they defeated Blackburn in the cup last week and while their form is not at it's best, you would have to expect them to get the 3 points tonight against a Newcastle team that have lost their last 4 league fixtures including a derby defeat to Sunderland where it took them 80 minutes to even muster a shot on target. Temporary boss John Carver is in the impossible position of managing a Mike Ashley run club which as any Rangers fan will tell you, is something akin to managin a chipshop without any chips. Top players have been sold off and never replaced and while this side are still in the league, Ashley will be totally satisfied, so long as he gets his dirty greasy paws on another year's worth of PL TV money. Survival in the big league is his only concern. Still it could be worse, he could try to steal your club badges! (he really has done this at Rangers) In any case, I expect a comfortable home win for the hosts who should be able to use the ineptittude of their opponents to build confidence and get back to winning ways. Liverpool have scored 2 or more in 5 of their last 6 Anfield meetings with Newcastle, winning 5 and drawing the other and I expect a similar outcome tonight. The stats don't look good for a Newcastle side that have lost 5 of their last 6 matches, leaking 14 goals in the process and have lost each of their last 3 on the road without even scoring a goal and a repeat tonight looks very likely. Indeed the Geordies are pretty hopeless on the road, losing 6 of their last 8 away fixtures and in 5 of those losses the margin of defeat was by more than 1 goal and that's the bet I fancy tonight. Liverpool are 20/21 to win by more than 1 goal and I expect a really rather routine easy win Liverpool. La Liga 20:30 Valencia vs Levante - Prediction 2.1- Best Bet - Valencia to score 2 or more @8/15 Valencia welcome Levante for the local derby, in a fixture that the bookies expect to be a routine victory for the hosts but there are 1 or 2 stats worth considering before you make Valencia your banker home win. Los Che have only 1 win from their last 7 meetings with Levante and only 1 win in their last 6 meetings at the Mestalla over the last 7 years although that that was their most recent clash a year ago, ending in a 2.0 win for the home side and it's obvious that the "derby effect" is certainly important here because clearly the minnows Levante have raised their game in the past for this fixture. Current form is a different story though with Levante only winning twice on the road all season although their most recent win did come last week as they thrashed Almeria 4.1. Confidence will have risen but with 7 defeats in succession coming before that win, this is a team that rarely gets a result on the road and it would be a surprise if they can get one here tonight. Valencia are too short at 2/5 so I will consider the value bet of 8/15 on them to score 2 or more goals, a stat which they have achieved on 11 occasions this season from 15 home matches. The only teams to prevent Los Che from scoring 2 or more were Barcelona, Villareal, Bilbao and Getafe so generally speaking you can rely on them to score against the weaker teams in the division and Levante are certainly one of those. With it being a derby, I expect a good fight from Levante and I do expect them to make it tough for the hosts but it would be a surprise if Valencia should emerge from this fixture with anything less than 3 points. Scotland - Premiership 20:45 St. Mirren vs Ross County - Ross to win @7/5, draw no bet @4/6 I don't usually bet on SPL football but this fixture does look interesting...at least from a betting perspective. Saints sit 10 points adrift at the foot of the table, have lost four on the spin and were a total mess last time out in their 5.0 defeat at Motherwell, as tipped up by Bobookies and it's hard to see a turn around in form now. With such a big gap and so few games remaining, they seem destined for the drop and with 13 home defeats in 16 matches you would expect them to struggle again tonight, especially as they are taking on a rampant Ross County side that have sevens wins and a draw from their last eight. My only concern in backing County would be that they have a pretty poor away record, winning only 3 times this season from 16 but they have improved dramatically since the earlier part of the season and should claim the points here although a safer option would be the visitors to win/draw no bet @4/6. Bo's Best Bets Liverpool -1 to beat Newcastle - 20/21 Valencia to score 2 or more goals @8/15 Ross County to beat St Mirren @7/5 and draw no bet @4/6 Comments are closed.
