6 days of World cup qualifiers lie ahead and we kick things off this evening with 9 games from the European sections with Paris hosting the tie of the day as an impressive France welcome a Netherlands team badly in need of a positive result with a second successive failure to qualify for a major championships now a serious possibility. Elsewhere in that section, Sweden travel to Bulgaria boasting an impressive record over their opponents and will be hopeful of collecting the 3 points that could well secure their path towards another World Cup although the Bulgarians have won 3 out of 3 at home in this qualifying campaign, including an impressive 2.0 win over the aforementioned Dutch. Comfortable home wins are certain for Belgium as they host whipping boys Gibraltar while similar outcomes can be expected in Switzerland with Andorra the visitors and in Portugal where an improving Faroes side should still succumb to the reigning European champions. Here then are today's previews with my main focus on those games in Bulgaria and in France. Football is finally back this weekend across Europe with a return to action for Serie A, Bundlesiiga and La Liga but with little in the way of form, we will be keeping our selections to a minimum in these early weeks as we look for early patterns and form to develop. The first month of the season will be spent assessing the form throughout the big leagues so in these early stages, I won't be be betting the farm but there are a couple of fixtures from the Bundesliga that catch my eye as we begin the season in the same manner with which we finished, searching and hopefully finding the goals. Here are my prediction and selections for today with small stakes advised. The Premier League makes its long awaited return this evening as Arsenal welcome Leicester to the Emirates in what should be an entertaining contest.
With the Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A still a week short of their returns, we will be keeping our selections to a minimum this week and indeed in the coming weeks as we wait to see some early form develop. I am very much in favour of a patient approach at the start of the season with so many changes taking place over what has been a hectic summer across Europe. Here then are my quick previews for the best of the Premier League fixtures this weekend. |
