BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (BTTS)
This is my favourite market to bet on and I use a wide variety of statistics, form, patterns and historical meetings to analyse the probablity of this outcome. Holland and Germany are particularly good leagues for this market and is a popular bet because it gives you a chance for almost the entire 90 minutes of the match. This bet type will make up a large proportion of my predictions.
The most important factors are home and away form patterns and positions in the league. Mid-table clashes are good for this market as well as lesser placed teams at home to free scoring top sides (Liverpool, Real Madrid, Hoffenheim and Man City to name but 4)
OVER 2.5 GOALS
A similar market to the btts but here we need at least 3 goals in the match to win. Similar analysis of the stats is required for this market and it can be especially profitable when betting on teams who are free scoring but tend to let one in as well. The bonus here is that if a team is just too dominant to concede, then if they find 3 you have your win. 2.1 of course returns the same result or indeed any result as long as there are 3 goals or more.
Examples of when this market has proved valuable was in the recent Man Utd home encounters with Liverpool and Man City. Most expected BTTS but by backing the over 2.5 goal market, you would have been laughing. Incidentally, I was not laughing on those occassions as my bet was....BTTS! oh well...
TOTAL TEAM GOALS
This is an increasingly popular selection of mine when we are looking at teams that score consistently and at a rate of more than 1 per game. Look for free scoring attacks and leaky defences and you can back a team to score 2 or more goals (the market will usually be called over 1.5 goals) at a similar price to that of the straight out win. I like this market as the statistical analysis serves us well and is a favourite of mine when Liverpool hit the road. Likewise Real Madrid and Hoffenheim.
HANIDCAP BETTING
In a match situation, handicap match betting gives one team or player a virtual deficit to overcome (a handicap) at the start of the event - the opponent receives a virtual start. You bet on who will win with the handicap taken into account.
Manchester United vs. Chelsea ends in a 3-1 victory to Chelsea. Prior to the match the Handicap Match Betting was offered as follows:
Chelsea (-1) 2/1
H'cap Tie (-1) 9/4
Man Utd (+1) Evs
Backers of 'Chelsea (-1)' would be winners as Chelsea's score after the handicap has been applied is greater than their opponents, 3 minus 1 = 2; this is greater than Manchester United's final score of 1.
Backers of 'Man Utd (+1)' would lose as Man Utd's score after the handicap has been added on is not greater than their opponents, 1 plus 1 = 2; this is not greater than Chelsea's final score of 3.
